Luke van Gessel (1997) is an interdisciplinary media artist and designer whose work participates in the deconstruction of social standards and norms, in a narrow society. He analyses the relationship between inner desires and (a changing) identity in his work. His illustrations and art pieces typically put an emphasis on aesthetics, contrasting colours and particular lines.
These elements invite and confront the viewer with the layering of his work. Thus, not only artistry and personal references are explored. It also creates a space for an activistic dimension. This activism often refers to theme's regarding social injustice(s)
and queerness.

Luke studies Communication and Multimedia Design and also followed several electives in the programme Visual Communication at the Maastricht Institute of Arts.
